The Technology

What Is SHR Laser Hair Removal?

At Serene Skin & Beauty in Sale, South Manchester, we offer SHR (Super Hair Removal) — an advanced laser hair removal technology using the Alma Harmony XL Pro™, designed to deliver safe, effective and virtually pain-free results for all skin types.

Unlike older laser hair removal methods that use intense pulses of light, SHR works by gradually heating the skin using lower energy and high repetition — delivering consistent results with minimal discomfort. The energy delivered during SHR treatment is accumulative, allowing the hair follicle to be effectively targeted while protecting the surrounding skin.

SHR uses Alma’s patented technology, combining low fluence with high-frequency laser energy to safely treat hair follicles. The gradual heating process makes SHR suitable for all skin types — including darker skin tones that were previously more difficult to treat using traditional laser methods. The applicator’s cooled tip protects the skin surface, while the in-motion technique ensures even energy distribution across the treatment area.

Unlike traditional laser hair removal, SHR does not rely on single high-energy pulses — making treatment virtually painless and reducing the risk of burns, irritation or discomfort. SHR can also be performed year-round, including during summer months.

The Science & Pricing

How Does SHR Work — and What Will It Cost?

SHR uses controlled light energy to target pigment within the hair follicle. The energy is absorbed and converted into heat, which damages the follicle. When treated at the right growth stage, that follicle is disabled and will not produce hair again. Because not all hairs are in the active growth phase simultaneously, a course of treatments is required — and results vary depending on the individual, the area, and hair characteristics.

Small areas (bikini line, chin, cheeks, hands, jawline female, navel to pubis, buttocks, underarms) — £30 single session / £150 course of 6

Medium areas (Hollywood or Brazilian bikini, chest female, lower back, shoulders, lower arm, upper arm, upper back female, stomach female, neck, beard male) — £50 single / £200 course of 6

Large areas (lower legs, upper legs, upper back male, chest & stomach male) — £70–£100 single / £280–£400 course of 6

Special offers: Underarms + Hollywood/Brazilian £300 (course of 6)  ·  Lower legs + Hollywood/Brazilian + underarms £400 (course of 6)  ·  Full face including neck £240 (course of 6)  ·  Full body £650–£800 (price varies by hair density)

A course of 6 is often suitable for initial reduction and finer regrowth. A course of 12 is commonly required for longer-term results, hormonal areas, male hair, or clients seeking maximum reduction. Sessions last 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on area and are spaced every 4 weeks to align with hair growth cycles. A consultation is required before starting treatment at our clinic in Sale, Cheshire.

Results & Honest Expectations

What Results Can I Expect from Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is most accurately described as laser hair reduction. When a follicle is successfully treated, that hair will not return. However, because not all follicles are in the active growth phase at once, results vary between individuals. Most clients experience significantly slower regrowth, finer hair, and in many areas very little visible hair long term.

The number of sessions needed depends on hair colour and thickness, skin tone, hormonal influences, the area being treated, hair growth cycles and whether hair is male or female pattern. Underarms and legs often respond quickly; areas such as the face, chin, bikini line, chest and back typically need more sessions. Male hair — being thicker, deeper-rooted and more hormonally driven — often requires more sessions, particularly for the beard, chest and back. This is completely normal and does not mean treatment isn’t working.

A course of treatments does not guarantee that all hair will be eliminated — courses are sold for value, not as a promise of a specific outcome. New hair can also occur over time due to hormonal changes, ageing or genetics. Some clients choose occasional maintenance sessions to sustain their results long term.

There is no downtime following SHR laser hair removal. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm, snapping feeling — very well tolerated and far more comfortable than older laser systems. Sun exposure should be avoided and aftercare guidance followed in the days after treatment.

“At Serene Skin & Beauty in Sale, laser hair removal is carried out by experienced practitioners with honest, realistic expectations at every stage. Results vary between individuals — and we will always give you an accurate picture of what to expect for your skin, hair type and treatment area.”
