Understanding Your Concern

Acne vs Acne Scarring — Understanding the Difference

Acne can present in different ways — from active breakouts and congestion to long-term scarring and uneven skin texture. At Serene Skin & Beauty in Sale, South Manchester, we offer advanced laser treatments that target both active acne and acne scarring, depending on your skin’s needs.

Because acne and acne scarring require different approaches, your treatment plan will always be tailored following a professional skin consultation.

Active acne includes breakouts, pimples, inflamed spots, congestion, excess oil, and enlarged pores. These concerns require treatments that reduce bacteria, inflammation, and oil production.

Acne scarring refers to marks left behind after acne has healed — such as indented scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and post-acne skin damage. These concerns need resurfacing and collagen-stimulating treatments.

At Serene Skin & Beauty, we treat both concerns using different technologies within the Harmony XL Pro™ platform — the same clinically proven system used across our advanced skin treatments.

Our Treatments

ClearSkin PRO & iPixel — Laser Treatments for Acne & Scarring

ClearSkin PRO — Laser Treatment for Active Acne

ClearSkin PRO is an advanced, non-invasive, award-winning FDA-approved laser treatment designed to treat active acne while improving overall skin quality. It uses a non-ablative Erbium Glass laser combined with an advanced cooling and vacuum system. The laser penetrates the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production while leaving the surface intact.

ClearSkin PRO targets acne at its source by reducing acne-causing bacteria, decreasing excess oil and sebum, unclogging and refining enlarged pores, calming inflammation and redness, and improving skin texture and tone. There is little to no downtime, and most clients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment. For best results, a course of 4 to 6 treatments is usually recommended, spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.

iPixel Laser — Treatment for Acne Scarring

For acne scarring and long-term skin texture concerns, we use iPixel Laser Skin Resurfacing. iPixel is a fractional laser treatment that targets acne scars by creating microscopic zones of energy within the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing response and stimulating collagen production. It is particularly effective for indented acne scars, textural scarring, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores caused by scarring, and post-acne marks.

Which treatment is right for you? If you are experiencing active acne or frequent breakouts, ClearSkin PRO is usually the most appropriate starting point. If your acne is under control but you are left with scarring or uneven texture, iPixel is often recommended. In some cases, a combination approach may be advised — treating active acne first and addressing scarring once the skin is stable.

At our clinic in Sale, Cheshire, every treatment plan is tailored following a professional skin consultation for clients across Manchester, Altrincham, and South Manchester.

Downtime & Results

What to Expect After Treatment

After ClearSkin PRO treatment for active acne, there is little to no downtime. Most clients can return to normal activities immediately. Many clients notice improvement after their first session, with progressive improvement over a full course of 4 to 6 treatments.

After iPixel laser treatment for acne scarring, the skin may appear red and feel warm, similar to mild sunburn. This usually settles within 24 hours. Treatment sessions typically last between 30 and 60 minutes. Your practitioner will provide full aftercare guidance to support healing and optimise results.

With both treatments, skin continues to improve over several weeks following each session as collagen production increases. The most visible results appear after completing a full course.

Clients across Manchester, Sale, Altrincham, and Cheshire choose acne and acne scarring laser treatments at Serene Skin & Beauty for the personalised, clinically proven approach and the genuinely progressive improvement in skin clarity and texture.
